Nairobi – Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has officially lost her seat in the Senate after Speaker Amason Kingi declared the position vacant in a gazette notice dated May 21, 2025.
The announcement follows the expulsion of Orwoba from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party over allegations of gross misconduct and violations of the party’s constitution and code of conduct.
According to UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) unanimously endorsed the Disciplinary Committee’s recommendation to expel Orwoba. Among the accusations leveled against her were making public statements that damaged the party’s image and repeatedly failing to respond to disciplinary summons.
“The NEC resolved to expel Senator Gloria Orwoba based on established misconduct. The party has withdrawn its sponsorship of her nomination to the Senate,” read part of the party’s statement.
In her place, UDA has nominated Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi, a resident of Kimilili in Bungoma County, as her replacement.
Orwoba’s legal challenge against the expulsion hit a dead end earlier this month when Justice Lawrence Mugambi of the High Court in Nairobi dismissed her petition, citing procedural irregularities and labeling her application as incompetent.
This development marks a significant political setback for Orwoba, who had carved out a reputation as a vocal and often controversial legislator.
