Cheluget family accepts Ruto offer to buy 5,800-acre Narok land, dismisses internal divisions

A fresh twist has emerged in the controversy surrounding a 5,800-acre land in Narok previously owned by the late Isaiah Cheluget. His family has come out strongly defending President William Ruto, confirming that discussions had indeed taken place between the family and the president over the land purchase.

The family dismissed claims by Moses Kipkirui Cheluget, who alleged no consultations occurred and that the family had no official legal representative. They clarified that a succession case was conclusively settled in 2018 and that Kipkirui is not recognized as Cheluget’s biological son. His 2017 court petition to be declared an heir and request for a DNA test via exhumation was dismissed by the High Court.

In a press conference led by Ambassador Nancy Kirui, the family labelled Kipkirui an “impostor” with no legal standing. They reaffirmed that they had met multiple times with President Ruto’s team, including the PS for Lands, Narok Governor, and Director for Settlements, in efforts to honour Cheluget’s wish for the land to be used for squatter resettlement.

The family said the late Cheluget had personally requested government intervention before his death in 2017 and appreciated that the president was fulfilling that commitment.
