Kenya’s Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made sensational claims alleging a state-sponsored assassination plot targeting him through poisoning with biological weapons. The embattled deputy president made the remarks during an emotionally charged press statement released on Monday morning.
Gachagua claimed that a “killer squad” was deployed to execute a covert operation aimed at eliminating him silently using advanced chemical agents.
“After about 30 minutes, the killer squad was joined by their counterparts, who were highly trained in the use of biological weapons,” he said. “Their instructions were to poison me through inhaled chemicals that would paralyze my brain within three months.”
According to the DP, the intention was not to eliminate him immediately but to induce progressive neurological damage, making it appear as a natural illness.
Breaking down during his statement, Gachagua appealed directly to President William Ruto:
“I was to be killed in two poisoning attempts. President William Samoei Ruto, I beg you, don’t kill us, don’t kill my children. Remember, I was there for you when you needed a man to be there for you.”
These explosive allegations have sent shockwaves through the political landscape, with both supporters and critics demanding a full investigation. As of publication time, there has been no official comment from State House or any security agencies regarding the accusations.
Political observers say the DP’s public outburst is a sign of deepening rifts within the Kenya Kwanza administration. Once seen as President Ruto’s loyal right-hand man, Gachagua has in recent months increasingly positioned himself as an internal critic of the government, especially on issues affecting the Mt. Kenya region.
The alleged assassination attempt comes amid mounting political tension and multiple reports of power struggles within the ruling coalition.
Civil society groups and legal experts are now calling for an independent inquiry into the claims, warning that such allegations, if true, pose a serious threat to Kenya’s constitutional order.
