Former Nairobi PPO Anthony Kibuchi Passes Away After Long Illness

Former Nairobi Provincial Police Officer (PPO) Anthony Kibuchi has died while undergoing treatment at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital. He was 68.

His daughter, Catherine Nyawira Kibuchi, confirmed that he passed away on Tuesday at around 9:45 a.m., after a three-week hospitalization. Kibuchi had been battling cancer since 2018.

“My father was first diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and had been fighting it until his passing on Tuesday,” Nyawira stated.

Kibuchi was a highly respected figure in the police service, having held key leadership positions across various regions. His career spanned several decades, with notable stints as the Provincial Police Officer in North Eastern, Nyanza, and Nairobi, where he served with distinction until his retirement.

Residents of his hometown, Ngurubani in Kirinyaga County, remembered him fondly for his contribution to the community. Family friend and neighbor Richard Mwangi described the late Kibuchi as “a devoted family man and a pillar of support to many.”

“He was instrumental in supporting many people in our area,” Mwangi added.

Plans are currently underway for his final send-off. According to Nyawira, the late officer will be laid to rest on Wednesday next week at his ancestral home in Kianungu village, Tebere Ward, Mwea Constituency.

Kibuchi’s passing marks the end of a legacy of public service and dedication to both his country and community.
