Kenyan Police to Evacuate Haiti Amid Rising Security Concerns

The Kenyan government has initiated plans to evacuate its police officers from Haiti as rising insecurity continues to pose serious threats to the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in the Caribbean nation.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi announced that the government is set to sign a crucial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dominican Republic to support the evacuation, medical care, and repatriation of officers serving in the troubled country.

Mudavadi, currently on an official tour of the United States, will head to Santo Domingo—the capital of the Dominican Republic—from May 11 to 13 to finalize the deal.

“In Santo Domingo, Mudavadi will sign MoUs on medical evacuation, repatriation of injured and deceased persons, and access to Dominican territory for Kenyan members of the MSS mission in Haiti,” read a statement from his office.

The agreement aims to provide urgent support for officers injured in action and streamline the logistics of transporting personnel out of Haiti as the security environment continues to deteriorate.
