Mombasa Drug Trafficker Arrested, Heroin Worth Sh1.8 Million Seized

In a major breakthrough in the war against drug trafficking, Mombasa Anti-Narcotics detectives have arrested a well-known drug dealer and confiscated heroin with an estimated street value of Sh1.8 million.

The suspect, Ali Bakari Ali, aged 40, was apprehended in a dramatic operation at his residence in Kikambala, Kilifi County. Acting on actionable intelligence, detectives launched a surprise raid on the home, catching the suspect off guard.

A swift but thorough search of the premises led to the discovery of a blue carrier bag hidden under a mattress. Inside the bag were six tightly wrapped packages containing a total of 600 grams of heroin.

The suspect was immediately taken into custody and, together with the recovered narcotics, transferred to the Port Police Station. He is currently undergoing processing as detectives finalize preparations for his arraignment.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has commended the swift action of its officers and reiterated its commitment to cracking down on the illegal drug trade, particularly in coastal regions that have long served as entry points and distribution hubs for narcotics.

“This arrest is a significant step in dismantling drug trafficking networks operating along the coast,” a DCI spokesperson noted.

The suspect is expected to face charges related to possession and trafficking of narcotics, offenses which, under Kenyan law, attract heavy penalties including lengthy prison terms.

This operation underscores the government’s intensified efforts to curb drug abuse and illegal trafficking, which continue to pose a major threat to the country’s youth and national security.
