Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara was presented before the Milimani Law Courts on Friday morning, following her arrest the previous day in Nakuru County.
A video obtained by Citizen Digital showed the legislator being escorted by security officers out of a green Subaru and into the court premises under tight security.
The case has drawn significant political interest, with prominent leaders including Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka attending the court session in support of the embattled MP.
Confusion Surrounds Her Whereabouts Prior to Court Appearance
Earlier in the day, Kihara’s legal counsel, Advocate Ndegwa Njiru, raised concerns over her location, claiming he had lost contact with his client. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the lawyer alleged that the MP had briefly been brought to Milimani Law Courts around 7:00 a.m. but was not booked into the holding cells.
“She was held at the parking lot and not booked. Then around 8:20 a.m., she was whisked away in a green Subaru to an unknown location. We are stranded,” Njiru wrote.
The situation sparked further confusion about her custody status until she was later presented in court.
Arrest at Home Broadcast Live
Kihara was arrested on Thursday, shortly after a meeting with sand harvesters from Mai Mahiu, at her residence in Nakuru County. The arrest, which unfolded dramatically, was broadcast live on her Facebook page.
According to eyewitness accounts and social media footage, a team of officers some in uniform, others in plain clothes stormed her home, placed her in a waiting SUV, and transported her to Naivasha Police Station. She was then taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters on Kiambu Road in Nairobi before spending the night at Pangani Police Station.
Linked to Failure to Respond to DCI Summons
The arrest comes days after MP Kihara allegedly failed to respond to summons issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, instructing her to appear over remarks she reportedly made that were considered to undermine a senior public official.
A formal notice from Assistant Inspector General George Lenny Kisaka had required her presence at the DCI headquarters on Monday a summons she allegedly ignored, leading to her arrest.
