Police in Nakuru County have launched a full-scale investigation after two male bodies were discovered dumped along the Mogotio-Kipkitur road in Kinoyo village, Menengai area.
The grim discovery was made early Tuesday morning, with authorities confirming that both bodies were found naked, with their hands brutally severed and signs of extensive physical torture. Investigators believe the victims were murdered elsewhere and later dumped at the location under the cover of darkness.
“The nature of the injuries suggests prolonged torture,” said a senior officer from the Nakuru Police Division. “At this point, we have not identified the victims. Their bodies have been taken to the Nakuru City Mortuary for autopsy and forensic analysis.”
Residents of Kinoyo village were left shaken by the horrific find, calling for increased security patrols and faster investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Murungurune, Meru County, police are also investigating the murder of a man identified as Dennis Mawira, whose body was found with deep cuts on the head, arms, and back. Preliminary investigations suggest the killing was the result of a love triangle. The main suspect, said to be a romantic rival, is currently on the run.
“The suspect attacked the victim with a sharp object and fled the scene. We are pursuing credible leads and expect to make an arrest soon,” confirmed Meru County Police Commander.
These incidents come at a time when authorities are grappling with a disturbing surge in murder cases across the country. Police sources reveal that up to eight murder cases are reported daily, a trend they describe as deeply alarming.
While some of the cases are under active investigation, many remain unsolved, highlighting gaps in crime prevention and response.
In a positive development, a crackdown by officers from Kibera Police Station in Nairobi led to the arrest of four suspected criminals said to be behind a spate of robberies in the area. The suspects were arrested in a sting operation in the Line Saba area, where police recovered a homemade firearm, three rounds of live ammunition, six smartphones, two laptops, and a camera lens.
Authorities say the arrested individuals are assisting in investigations and will be arraigned once the probe is complete.
As investigations into the Nakuru and Meru killings continue, police are urging anyone with information to come forward, promising confidentiality and swift action.
