Peter Salasya Held at Central Police Station, Aide Alleges Secret Transfer Plans

Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya is being held at Nairobi’s Central Police Station following a dramatic arrest that stirred public anxiety and speculation about his safety.

The development was confirmed by the legislator’s personal aide, putting to rest growing fears that Salasya may have been abducted earlier in the day. According to the aide, there are now concerns that the MP might be covertly moved to an undisclosed location, raising alarm over due process and transparency.

The MP had earlier posted a worrying message on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, alleging that he was under attack by people who claimed to be officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The alarming post led to widespread concern among his supporters, many of whom feared for his life and suspected possible abduction.

Later in the evening, a statement shared through the same X account by someone identifying as his personal assistant (PA) confirmed that Salasya had been taken into custody.

“Salasya is currently held at Central Police Station. Charges unknown. Reports suggest plans to move him to an undisclosed location,” the PA wrote, calling attention to what they believe could be an attempt to detain the MP away from public scrutiny.

Salasya’s lawyer later confirmed that the arrest was carried out by masked and heavily armed officers. He described the operation as irregular and troubling. According to the lawyer, the MP is facing accusations related to false publication and hate speech, though the specifics of the case remain unclear.

The arrest has sparked debate online and offline, with many questioning the legality of the procedures used to detain the outspoken legislator and calling for clarity from the authorities.
