Businessman and politician Philip Aroko is under investigation for allegedly financing the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were. After being named a person of interest by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Aroko surrendered to police on May 7 and was presented in court two days later.
Though prosecutors initially requested 30 days for his detention, the court granted seven days to hold him at Kileleshwa Police Station. A twist in court proceedings emerged when Aroko declined legal representation, prompting his team of high-profile lawyers to walk out.
The prosecution claims early findings indicate Aroko provided financial support linked to the execution of the murder. Investigations are ongoing.
