Samburu Porro Ward MCA Patrick Lerte Passes Away

Porro Ward Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Patrick Lerte has died while undergoing treatment at Maralal Referral Hospital.

The passing of the Samburu County legislator was confirmed on Sunday morning, December 28, through an internal communication issued by the Samburu County Assembly Clerk, Fred Lenapeer. According to the memo, Lerte died in hospital, though the exact nature of his illness has not yet been disclosed.

Sources familiar with the matter indicated that the MCA had been unwell for several days prior to his death and had been receiving medical care before he succumbed.

Lerte was first elected in 2022 on the Amani National Congress (ANC) party ticket. Earlier this year, ANC formally joined President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), placing Lerte among leaders aligned with the ruling coalition.

During his tenure, the late MCA served as the Chairperson of the County Assembly Committee on Lands and Physical Planning. Colleagues and residents frequently described him as a committed and hardworking public servant who remained passionate about development issues in Porro Ward.

Leaders across Samburu County have since expressed their condolences. Samburu West Member of Parliament Naisula Lesuuda was among the first to mourn Lerte, conveying sympathy to his family, fellow legislators, and the residents of Porro Ward and Samburu County at large.

Lerte’s death comes just weeks after the country mourned another ANC-affiliated legislator, nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi, who passed away on December 6, 2025. Hamisi served in Parliament on the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities, where he was widely commended for his dedication.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi were among leaders who paid tribute to the late MP, praising his integrity, humility, and commitment to public service.

As Samburu County mourns the loss of MCA Patrick Lerte, leaders and residents continue to reflect on his contribution to local governance and community development.
