When the Calls Go Silent, So Does the Attachment

Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has publicly disclosed a significant breakdown in communication with President William Ruto. In a candid statement, Muturi revealed that Ruto ceased responding to his calls following the funeral of Lenny Kivuti’s son. Expressing his sentiments, Muturi stated, “We haven’t spoken since, and I don’t miss it. I only used to call him when it was absolutely necessary. So I said, to hell with it! He is not someone I cannot live without.”

This revelation comes in the wake of Muturi’s dismissal from the Cabinet in March 2025. Prior to his removal, Muturi had been increasingly vocal in his criticism of the administration, particularly concerning its handling of abductions and extrajudicial killings. His outspokenness included a refusal to attend Cabinet meetings until the issue of forced disappearances was formally addressed.

The deteriorating relationship between Muturi and President Ruto underscores the internal tensions within the government, highlighting the challenges faced by dissenting voices in the current political landscape.
